The minimum age is 16, with junior or senior standing at Red Bluff, Corning, or Los Molinos High School. Some host employers have additional requirements; program staff match students appropriately.

Do students need a work permit to apply?

No permit is needed to apply, but one is required if a student is selected and is still a minor. Necessary equipment and clothing may be provided through the grant.

Q: What if a student does not have transportation?

It depends on the high school; some Tehama County schools can provide transportation during school hours. Ask your school coordinator.

Q: Is there a penalty for not finishing the apprenticeship?

No. Apprentices still in high school simply return to a regular class schedule.

Takes about 10 minutes. No work experience required. Trades coursework, reliability, and a willingness to learn are what count.

How much will I earn?

Apprentices start at $16.90 per hour (California minimum wage), with raises tied to progress through the registered wage schedule.

Is there an age requirement?

How long is the program?

2,000 hours. Seniors work up to 20 hours a week on a block schedule, then finish their hours over the next 12–18 months as a full-time employee.
